Divisions 1 and 2 reach Semi Final stage, while teams in Division 3 have been cut from 8 to 6...
In Division 1, Around the World and Fairway Miners enjoyed the bye after finishing the season the number one and two ranked sides respectively. That left third placed 6 + Max to battle it out with sixth placed APOTASP, and fourth placed Seven Wonders to play fifth placed Lasseters Hotshots. It was a high scoring match between 6 + Max and APOTASP and just three points separated the two teams at the end of the week with 6+ Max advancing through to the Semi Final 83-80. Robert Cooke came out firing for 6+Max in scoring 25 points and putting the team in a wining position, although it's funny how a big score can sometimes cause the other team members to buckle under the pressure of trying to back it up. There were no such problems for 6+Max however as Mitchell Power scored 20 points, Paul Letch came in with 19points and John Graham with 19 also for a total of 83. APOSTASP were right in the match and had every reason to be confident they could win with an 80 point total a very high score. Their points came from Daryl Wilson and Anthony Mills who both scored 22, Nick Hill with 20 and Jim Lawrie with 16. The second qualifying final was just as high quality with Lasseters Hotshots outlasting Seven Wonders 79-76. Reginald Vitler top scored for Lasseters with 23 points, followed by Max Cameron and Grant Souter with 19 points each and Stasiek Stuginski with 18 points. For the Seven Wonders, Bernie Vicklund played his heart out with 21 points, Mitchell Tieck scored a respectable 19, Steve Tieck and Paul Pearson both with 18 rounded out the total of 80.
In Division 2, Not as Reported and Ruff Nuts enjoyed the Bye courtesy of finishing one and two respectively in the Top 6 finals series. Third placed VAGS showed no mercy as they disposed of sixth placed Principal Women 83-67. Best for VAGS was Daniel Brown with 26 points, followed by Liam Loader with 20, Brian Shearn and Stephen Morris with 18 points each. Principal Women were gallant in defeat as they managed at least to get all 7 players on the course during the week with their best four being; Kym O'Burtill and Debra Froud with 18 points each, Trudy Robertson with 16 and Celia Otley on 15. HAS Hackers also advanced through to the Semi's after defeating a disappointing Dutch Tubs 78-67. Anne Loader and Shane O'Callaghan were impressive as they led from the front for HAS Hackers on 20 points each. Helen Neave and Tanya Kirker were on the score sheet as well with 19 points each for a 78 total. Dutch Tubs were not able to really get firing as they would have expected in the knockout match with Michael Drew top scoring with 18 points.
In Division 3, Ross Engineering put That's Gold to the sword to advance directly through to the Semi FInal in two week time with a comfortable 82-56 win. The Golferoo's were one point winners over Hardly Normal to also advance through to the Semi's 80-79. Cameron Cole's 27 point haul for The Golferoo's proved to be the game breaker in that one, but Hardly Normal will get a second chance this week in the Elimination Final. B Team ran out easy winners over The Gapfillers 75-27 and keep themselves alive in the knockout section. Pleasure & Pain were too good for Shankensteins 67-61 in the other knockout match, but will find this week much tougher.
Individually over the past two weeks;
Home Hardware Round 17 - 190 rounds were returned with 37 balls rewarded to players on 19 points or higher. Viviane Castaneda produced a stunning display of golf to shoot the low round of the week in scoring 27 points. Carmelo Golotta also got to the top of the score sheet with a sensational round of 26 points.
Lassters Hotel & Casino Qualifying Final - 140 rounds were returned with 33 balls rewarded to players on 19 points or better. Cameron Cole was the weeks best player with 27 points, followed closely by Daniel Brown with 26. Bev Watkins was the best of the ladies with a fine round of 22 points.
Player of the Year
Male - Cameron Cole has won the Player of the Year Trophy for 2010 after finishing the season on 73 POTY points. If Quinton Siddans fails to win the Biggest Loser trophy at the end of the comp, he will pcik up the runner-up trophy after finishing on 65 POTY points.
Female - Debra Froud and Gail Scobie went into the last round of the season tied on points, but it was Debra Froud who prevailed in the end on 64 POTY points ahead of Gail Scobie who finished on 62. But, with Scobie a short priced favourite to take out the Biggest Loser trophy, the runner-up prize will go to Lynda Galinat who finished on 58 points after a massive 101 games over the 17 Rounds.
POTY Points will be awarded as follows: Based on the players best score for the week only. The highest individual score each week is awarded 10 POTY points, for every shot scored below the highest individual score, 1 point is deducted. i.e. Best individual score for the week is 26 – every player with 26 as their best score earns 10 POTY pts, 25pts – players earn 9 POTY pts, 23pts – players earn 7 POTY pts…….. 17pts – players earn 1 POTY pt, 16pts and below – zero (0) POTY pts. Pre-Season, Mid-Season and Finals Rounds are excluded from the Player of the Year calculation.
Biggest Loser
Male - Daniel Yamada leads the men's section with an 19 shot reduction. Albert Tilmouth is well placed on a 17 stroke reduction in a likely position to claim the runner-up trophy, depending on the results of Quinton Siddans over the final three weeks.
Female - Gail Scobie has the trophy all but locked up with a 14 stroke reduction in handicap. Bev Watkins is well placed to take the runner-up trophy currently sitting on 8 strokes reduced with Debra Froud (who is ruled out after winning the Player of the Year). Viviane Castaneda looms as a late season threat as she now sits on a 6 shot reduction, just two behind.
Every match now becomes a knockout match, so expect players to play an extra round or two over the coming weeks. Team captains play a vital role at this point of the season and need to rally their team and make sure that all players get out for at least one game. Unfortunately for 6+Max and Not as Reported, they both are down to 6 players for the finals, with each having a player fail to return the minimum 5 scores to be eligible to continue.
