We are down to the last round in the Alice Springs competition for 2010...
In Division 1, APOTASP pulled off a spirited 76-71 win over Lasseters Leftovers to give themselves a shot to make it into the playoff's in the final week of the competition. They now sit in seventh position, just outside the Top 6 which will qualify for the finals, but could still make it with another win in the last round. APOTASP will give themselves an even better chance if they get all 7 players to return a score with thier superior differential putting them ahead if either of the two teams in front of them lose this week. The two teams sitting precariously just inside the Top 6 are Wobbegings (5th on 21pts) and Lasseters Hotshots (6th also on 21pts). Wobbegongs however are up against the competition leaders Around the World this week, while Lassteres Hotshots have a tough match against the third placed 6 + Max. It will certainly be an interesting week for all team concerned, and may just be decided on which team can muster one last effort from all 7 players. Lasseters Hotshots it should be noted have done well to get into sixth position after defeating the consistent Seven Wonders side 75-74 last week.
In Division 2, A1 Mechanics have put themselves into a position where they could possibly steal sixth spot this week after defeating the team currently sitting in that spot, Principal Women, 64-61. Debra Froud played valiantly in a beaten side to score 21 points but unfortunately couldn't get the support of three other team members to register scores high enough to get the win. The rest of the field is now settled with just the one round remaining with Not as Reported registering an 18-0 win over last placed Mobil Hackers to stay at the top of the ladder. HAS Hackers defeated the second placed Ruff Nuts 64-46, although you would assume that result will not be indicative of the effort that Ruff Nuts will display during the finals.
In Division 3, The Golferoo's showed no mercy for And In Last Place as they triumphed 95-0. Cameron Cole was superb with 27 points, as was Ben Fisher with 25 and Guiseppe Spagnolo with 24, with all three players not able to be accused of saving their handicaps for the finals. Ryan Joiner and Jody Jong also contributed with both payers scoring 19, and you can take your pick which one was included in the team total. Of course, with a total of fourteen teams in Division 3, there will be a Top 8 finals series, which will conclude one week later than Divisions 1 and 2. This means that the Gapfiller's who failed to register a score in a 20-0 loss last week at the hands of The Mighty Cats have nothing to fear in eighth place, as they are three and a half points clear of the ninth placed Seven Saints and cannot be overtaken with just one round remaining. Ross Engineering will head into the finals favourites, as they will finish on top of the standings at the end of 17 rounds, win, lose or draw this week.
Individually over the past two weeks;
Asprint Round 15 - 188 rounds were returned with 41 balls rewarded to players on 19 points or higher. Cameron Cole returned the weeks best score with 26 points. Mitchell Tieck continues to improve as he shot 24 points and tied with Ben Fisher who is also playing some high quality golf. Bianca Gordon led home the ladies in the field with 23 points.
Imparja TV Round 16 - 175 rounds were returned with 42 balls rewarded to players on 18 points or better. Cameron Cole continued on his purple patch of form to record three wins in a row, this time with 27 points. Ben Fisher was right in the mix again with 25 points, while Giuseppe Spagnolo was third with 24. Debra Froud was the best for the girls with 21 points.
Player of the Year
Male - Cameron Cole has shot to the lead on 66 POTY points with one round remaining. Quinton Siddans is in second spot on 64 POTY pts. Shaun Broomhall remains the only other player that can win it as he sits 10 points behind on 56.
Female - Debra Fround and Gail Scobie will head into the final round tied for the lead on 58 POTY points, while Lynda Galinat is also in the mix just two points behind on 56, making a tense week of golf for the three girls involved.
POTY Points will be awarded as follows: Based on the players best score for the week only. The highest individual score each week is awarded 10 POTY points, for every shot scored below the highest individual score, 1 point is deducted. i.e. Best individual score for the week is 26 – every player with 26 as their best score earns 10 POTY pts, 25pts – players earn 9 POTY pts, 23pts – players earn 7 POTY pts…….. 17pts – players earn 1 POTY pt, 16pts and below – zero (0) POTY pts. Pre-Season, Mid-Season and Finals Rounds are excluded from the Player of the Year calculation.
Biggest Loser
Male - Daniel Yamada leads the men's section with an 18 shot reduction. Quinton Siddans, Shaun Broomhall and Albert Crameri are all just two back on 16. Joshua Robinson has also had a stellar season to have kost 15 strokes from his handicap. Both Quinton Siddans and Shaun Broomhall have a chance to win the Player of the Year and if that eventuates, will be ineligible to win the Biggest Loser which continues through to the end of the finals.
Female - Gail Scobie is way out in front in the female section with a 13 stroke reduction in handicap, but may be ruled out if she wins the Player of the Year trophy. Bev Watkins is sitting pretty on 7 strokes reduced with Debra Froud (who is also in contention for the Player of the Year). Viviane Castaneda has played a solid season to have so far lost 5 strokes.
Home Hardware Round 17 Draw:
In Division 1, with APOTASP playing a must win match against the last placed Young Guns +1 to get into the Top 6, the spotlight falls on matches involving either of the two teams which could potentially be knocked out. Wobbegongs have a supremely difficult match against the leaders Around the World, but may get lucky if Around the World take a breather before the finals begin. Lasseters Hotshots have a similar task as they face the third placed 6 + Max in a must win encounter.
Division 2's match of the round is between 1st and 2nd, Not As Reported vs Ruff Nuts. Both teams should be looking for a good win over their biggest rival heading into the finals series.
In Division 3, 3rd placed Hardly Normal take on 6th placed B Team.
