Alice Springs GC - June 15th Update

Alice Springs GC - June 15th Update

Just 5 rounds remain the major Sevens Golf season for Alice Springs in 2010.

In Division 1, Around the World lead the way on 25 competition points.  They had an easy 69-0 win over Lasseters Leftovers.  Lasseters Hotshots however had a good win against Imparja 77-67.  Scores counting in the 77 point total of Lassters Hotshots were Stasiek Struginski 20, Steve Rodgers 20, Max Cameron 19 and Reginald Vitler 18.  Hotshots also scored a bonus 1/2 competition point for having all 7 team members record a score during the round.

In Division 2, Pro Build Round 12 will be remembered as a very low scoring round with no team scoring 70 points or higher.  Ruff Nuts had the best score of 69 in thier win over Principal Women who were unlucky in defeat with 65.  Principal Women could have played any other team bar Ruff Nuts and HAS Hackers, and won their match.  Barry Taylor top scored for Ruff Nuts with 21 points and was assisted by Stephen Paterson 20, Ray Rowe 14 and Peter Thomson 14.  Debra Froud top scored for Principal Women with 21 points, with Kym O'Burtill and Leslie Tilbrook 16 points each, and Toni Harrison 12, also contributing to the total.

In Division 3, there was some more low scores with the exception of front runners Ross Engineering who scored 73 points on their way to a 27 point win over Seven Saints 73-46.  Quentan Siddans top scored for Ross Engineering with a massive 26 points and was backed up by Ben Farrows 17, Luke Richardson and Neil Ross with 15 a piece.  Seven Saints were only able to field 3 players with James Tudor the best with 18 points.  In one of the more bizarre matches seen in Sevens Golf, Otcon Odballs escaped with a 37-36 win over The Penetrators.  Ryan Gill scored 22 points for Otcon and Sam Jentsch was the only other player to register a score with 15, but it was good enough as The Penetrators also only had two players get out on the course, with Brian Knight 22 and Daniel O'Connor 14 coming close to a win.

Individually over the past two weeks;

HAS Business Solutions Round 11 - 240 rounds were returned with 58 balls rewarded to players on 18 points or higher.  Paul Graham led the field home with 24 points for a win.  Carmelo Golotta, Mitchell Tieck and Stephen Morris all scored a valuable 23 points.  Bev Watkins was the best of the girls with 22 points.

Pro Build Round 12 - A season low 172 rounds were returned with 37 balls rewarded to players on 18 points or better.  Quenton Siddans was the best for the week with a stunning 26 point total.  He pipped Gail Scobie at the post with Gail registering a magnificent 25 points.  James Nolan and Paul Korner had days to remember as well after scoring a very high score of 23 points each.

Player of the Year

Male - There has been quite a substantial shift in the mens Player of the Year standings with Quenton Siddans taking the lead after 12 round on 52 POTY points.  Albert Tilmouth, who is also vying for the 'Player to most often request a new password' award is just one point behind on 51 POTY pts.  With a maximum of 50 POTY points remaining for the season, it is still very possible that someone as far as 20 or 30 points back could make a late season run at the award.

Female - Gail Scobie has taken the lead on 51 POTY points, edging Debra Fround back into second place on 49 POTY points.  Also right in the mix is Lynda Galinat of 45, and again, with 50 POTY points still up for grabs over the final 5 weeks, there is still opportunity for a bolter to come out of the pack.

POTY Points will be awarded as follows: Based on the players best score for the week only. The highest individual score each week is awarded 10 POTY points, for every shot scored below the highest individual score, 1 point is deducted. i.e. Best individual score for the week is 26 – every player with 26 as their best score earns 10 POTY pts, 25pts – players earn 9 POTY pts, 23pts – players earn 7 POTY pts…….. 17pts – players earn 1 POTY pt, 16pts and below – zero (0) POTY pts.  Pre-Season, Mid-Season and Finals Rounds are excluded from the Player of the Year calculation.

Biggest Loser

Male - Albert Tilmouth continues to lead the men's section with a 16 shot reduction but has been joined by Shaun Broomhall at the top.  Joshua Robinson is right there as well with 15 strokes reduced.  Rohan Duncan (14), Tim Young (13), Simon Nichol (12) and Ryan Joyner (12) are also in with a chance.

Female - Gail Scobie is way out in front in the female section with a 12 stroke reduction in handicap, but may be ruled out if she wins the Player of the Year trophy.  Bev Watkins continues to impress with 7 strokes reduced, while Debra Froud has now lost 6 strokes, Viviene Casteneda 5 and Claire Young 4.
