It's Grand Final week for Divisions 1 and 2 at Alice Springs, while teams in Division 3 are cometing in the Semi's...
Division 1 - Around the World vs 6 + Max
How they got there - Around the World defeated Lasseters Hotshots 85-81 in their Semi Final. Wayne Seed and Leigh Gorman were both on fire for Around the World in registering 23 points each. It proved to be the difference between the two sides as Max Harte and Max Cameron were the best two scorers for Lasseters Hotshots with 21 points each. 6 + Max survived a very high quality match against Fairway Miners 88-86. Both sides were determined to put up their best totals with the difference again coming from the top two scores on each team. Robert Cooke's 24 points and John Graham's 23 were good enough to give 6 + Max the edge. Paul Graham and Bryan Steinhardt played some awesome golf as well to register 23 and 22 points respectively, but it proved not to be enough on this occasion.
How they line up - The match predictor says this one is too close to call, which you would expect for a Grand Final. Around the World are rated slightly better on average score with a 75.82 average, compared to 75.41 for 6 + Max. Although, when these sides last met it was 6 + Max that came out on top, and by a big margin, 83-71. 6 + Max are one player down, but that shouldn't be too much of a concern for them, what is of some concern however, is the fact that six of the Around the World team have played more games this season than any of the team members for 6 + Max. Expect a high quality match between these two sides.
The Consolation Final for third place will be fought out between Fairway Miners and Lasseters Hotshots. While both teams will be hurting from their defeats in the semi final last week, they will need to pick themselves back up and try and finish with a win to grab third place.
Division 2 - Not as Reported vs Ruff Nuts.
How they got there - Not as Reported defeated HAS Hackers in the Semi final last week, 83-76. Joshua Robinson, James Nolan and Albert Tilmouth were the best for Not as Reported with all three scoring 21 points during the week. They also had two options for fourth best scorer as Martin Frost and Jim Einam both scored 20. Helen Neave played well in a beaten side in scoring 20 points, as did Anne Loader with 19 points, Joanne Hanson with 19, and Tanya Kirker or Gail Scobie with 18 points each. Ruff Nuts defeated VAGS in the second Semi final 86-76 with Brad Tessman leading the Ruff Nuts to victory with a personal tally of 23 points. Barry Taylor was in good touch with 22 points, as was Ian Castledine with 21 and Ray Rowe with 20. Antony Brown scored 21 points to lead VAGS, but unfortunately the rest of the side were good with 19 and 18 points in the main, but it wasn't quite enough.
How they line up - Unbeleivably, both Not as Reported and Ruff Nuts finsihed the season with the exact same point average, 69.76. The two sides last met in the final round of the regular season in a low scoring affair won by Not as Reported, but because both teams only fielded three players, not much can be read into the result. Not as Reported are a player short for the match, but as individuals their best four players outscore the opposition on the Ruff Nuts side. Both sides have three players that have played at least 20 games this season, so commitment will not be a factor.
The Consolation Final will be played out between HAS Hackers and VAGS.
In Division 3, Ross Engineering take on Hardly Normal in the first Semi final. Ross Engineering are coming off the bye courtesy of their Top 2 finish at the end of the season and a win in the first finals week. Hardly Normal came through their Elimination Final match against B Team with hardly a scratch. Paul Montefiore led the way for Hardly Normal with 22 points in a comfortable 75-54 win. The second Semi Final is between The Golferoo's and That's Gold. The Golferoo's should be fresh after having the bye, while That's Gold were last week too godd for Pleasure and Pain 71-46. Marian Delsar was the best player on the course last week for That's Gold with 21 points.
Individually last week;
Northline Div 1 & 2 Semi Final/Div 3 Elimination Final - 160 rounds were returned with 32 balls rewarded to players on 20 points or better. Robert Cooke was the winner on 24 points and was followed home by a bunch of players on 23. they included, Wayne Seed, Leigh Gorman, Paul Graham, John Graham and Brad Tessman. Marian Delsar and Bev Watkins shared the honour of being the best of the ladies with 21 points each.
