Bribie Island GC - July 12th Update

Bribie Island GC - July 12th Update

Only 3 rounds remain at the Bribie Island Golf Club before the Grand Final, can Happy Hackers come from six points behind to steal a spot in the decider?

Here is the equation, Happy Hackers are six points behind second placed The Latchers with 3 rounds remaining.  If Happy Hackers can win all three matches and can get all 7 players on the course in each of the three remaining rounds, they can pick up a maximum available 7.5 competition points, which will be enough to get them into the Grand Final if The Latchers fail to win any matches.  The draw looks to be favourable for Happy Hackers as they have the non-existent Local Pro's this week, before the crunch match against The Latchers in Round 18.  A win there could set up a massive match against Mag Seven in the final round for place in the decider.  There's only one problem with this scenario, The Latchers can lock up their spot in the Grand Final by picking up the bonus half point in all three remaining matches themselves, as it is unlikely that Happy Hackers can pick up the 147 point differential lead that The Latchers have over them.  We think either side would be very worthy competition for Bar Flies, who themselves will undoubtably be under pressure to perform in the Grand Final, after performing so strongly during the 19 round season.  Last weeks results were Bar Flies 75 def The Latchers 66, Happy Hackers 84 def The Committee 69, Mag Seven 60 def Local Pros 0.

Individually over the past two weeks;

Round 15 - 22 rounds were returned with 4 Balls rewarded to players on 19 points or higher.  Tyneal Smart and Laurie Riddell were the best players over the week as both scored 21 points.  Sheena McDonald hit some form to score 20 and Wally Nelson returned a steady 19 points to get the last prize.

Round 16 - 35 rounds were returned with 9 balls rewarded to players on 19 points or better.  Luanne Armstead streeted the field to win by two points with her total of 24.  Penny Lambley was back in the winners list with 22 points as was Lee Turner who also recorded an excellent score of 22.  Liz Jarvis, Glennis Muir and Rick Bucholz all carded 21 points with Bob Thompson and Jude O'Laughlin scoring 19 to round out the rewards.

Player of the Year

Male - Lawrence Richards has the Male Player of the Year race locked up with 97 POTY points.  There is a battle royal for the runner-up trophy with Jude O'Laughlin and Barry Muir both sitting on 61.  Dave Murray (52) and Rick Bucholz (51) are still in reach to make a late charge with a maximum 30 POTY points still up for grabs.

Female - Liz Jarvis continues to lead after 16 rounds on 73 POTY points.  Catherine McCoy is still in the hunt for the trophy as she sits on 63.  Tyneal Smart is in third place on 62 POTY points, ahead of Glennis Muir on 52 and Luanne Armstead on 51.  With a maximum of 30 POTY points to be awarded before the end of the season, any player within 30 points can still win, although realistically if Jarvis can play steady golf over the next three weeks she will force McCoy and Smart to have to record a couple of really good scores.

POTY Points will be awarded as follows: Based on the players best score for the week only. The highest individual score each week is awarded 10 POTY points, for every shot scored below the highest individual score, 1 point is deducted. i.e. Best individual score for the week is 26 – every player with 26 as their best score earns 10 POTY pts, 25pts – players earn 9 POTY pts, 23pts – players earn 7 POTY pts…….. 17pts – players earn 1 POTY pt, 16pts and below – zero (0) POTY pts.  Pre-Season, Mid-Season and Finals Rounds are excluded from the Player of the Year calculation.

Biggest Loser

Male - Although Lawrence Richards leads the Biggest Loser standings, he will be ruled out having won the Player of the Year Award.  This means that Barry Muir is leading with a 16 shot reduction, followed by Jude O'Loughlin with 9 and Albert Crameri on 6.  Either Barry or Jude could also be ruled out for runner-up, if they take out the runner-up trophy in the Player of the Year.

Female - Tyneal Smart has dropped another stroke in the last fortnight to be in the lead on an 12 shot reduction, which is an amazing effort especially at this end of the season.  Glennis Muir has also dropped another shot to sit on a 10 stroke reduction tied with Liz Jarvis.  With trophies in the Player of the Year taking precendence, the runner-up award could filter down to Luanne Armstead who has a 9 stroke reduction in handicap, that is if Liz Jarvis wins the POTY and Glennis Muir takes second in the POTY.
