The Grand Final is just a week away with the two teams to face off decided. Bar Flies and The Latchers have played themselves into the final, but who will win the trophy for 2010?
Bar Flies defeated a gallant Mag Seven side last week in Round 18, 72-70. Liz Jarvis top scored for Bar Flies with 22 points and was supported well by Barry Muir with 17, Jude O'Laughlin with 17, and Bob Thompson with 16. Mag Seven had one of their better weeks on the course and were by no means disgraced in defeat with Lee Turner scoring the teams best of 19 points, followed by Laurie Riddell with 18, Nev Potter on 17 and Rick Bucholz with 16 points. Local Pros finally registered their second win of the season in a low scoring match with Tanyia Fittler scoring 19 points along with hubby Damien who scored 18 for a total of 37. It was good enough with their opposition The Committee scoring 28. Robyn Liggins scored 15 points for The Committee and was joined by Wally Nelson with 13. The Latchers are saving nothing for the Grand Final as they played at full strength in defeating Happy Hackers 88-76. Lawrence Richards top scored with 25 points and was helped along by Tonia Brady with 23, Tyneal Smart with 22, and Catherine McCoy with 18 points. Penny Lambley top scored for an unlucky Happy Hackers side with 21 points. Sue Tailford played well also to score 20, with Laureen Healy on 18 and Glennis Muir on 17 also contributing to an otherwise very good total.
Individually over the past two weeks;
Round 17 - 34 rounds were returned with 11 Balls rewarded to players on 20 points or higher. Glennis Muir led the field home with a sublime 24 point score. Liz Jarvis was in the mix again for top honours with a score of 22 points, as was Jude O'Laughlin who also scored 22. Bob Thompson, Penny Lambley and Catherine McCoy all received honourable mentions after scoring 21 points.
Round 18 - 29 rounds were returned with 8 balls rewarded to players on 19 points or better. Lawrence Richards finished top with 25 points while Tonia Brady had a game to savour after scoring 23 points.
Player of the Year
Male - Lawrence Richards has the Male Player of the Year trophy locked up on 112 POTY points. It looks as though at this stage that Barry Muir will win the Biggest Loser Trophy, leaving Jude O'Laughlin the likely POTY runner-up.
Female - Liz Jarvis holds an unassailable 13 point lead in the Female Player of the Year Award. Catherine McCoy looks as though she will pick up the runner-up trophy with Tyneal Smart leading the Biggest Loser trophy standings.
POTY Points will be awarded as follows: Based on the players best score for the week only. The highest individual score each week is awarded 10 POTY points, for every shot scored below the highest individual score, 1 point is deducted. i.e. Best individual score for the week is 26 – every player with 26 as their best score earns 10 POTY pts, 25pts – players earn 9 POTY pts, 23pts – players earn 7 POTY pts…….. 17pts – players earn 1 POTY pt, 16pts and below – zero (0) POTY pts. Pre-Season, Mid-Season and Finals Rounds are excluded from the Player of the Year calculation.
Biggest Loser
Male - Although Lawrence Richards leads the Biggest Loser standings, he will be ruled out having won the Player of the Year Award. This means that Barry Muir is leading with a 16 shot reduction, followed by Jude O'Loughlin with 9 and Albert Crameri on 6. Albert Crameri looks set to win the runner-up prize with Jude O'Laughlin likely to win the POTY runner-up trophy.
Female - Tyneal Smart has dropped yet another stroke in the last fortnight to be in the lead on a 13 shot reduction, which is an amazing effort especially at this end of the season. Glennis Muir has also improved again to be on an 11 stroke reduction tied with Liz Jarvis. The most likely scenario is that Smart will win the trophy, and Glennis Muir will finish as runner-up after the POTY trophies are taken into account.
