Just 5 rounds remain at Bribie Island Golf Club before the Grand Final...
The Bar Flies are continuing to play themselves into favouritism for the inagural Sevens Golf title at Bribie Island Golf Club with an easy 70-0 win over Local Pro's. Dave Murray led the side with 22 points and was assisted by Barry Muir, Liz Jarvis and Jude O'Laughlin who all scored 16. The Latchers were too good last week for The Committee 86-60. The Latchers were led out of the box by Lawrence Richards on 24 and he was backed up by Vicki Carius with 22, Tonia Brady with 21 and Catherine McCoy on 19. The final game was between Mag Seven and The Happy Hackers with the Hackers getting the win 34-33. Sue Tailford was the shining light for Happy Hackers with 21 and was helped along by Laureen Healy with 13. Despite getting one extra player on the course during the week, Mag Seven couldn't come up with the win with Rick Buchholz scoring 14, Nev Potter 10 and Laurie Riddell 9 in a week they would rather forget.
Individually over the past two weeks;
Round 13 - 29 rounds were returned with 9 Balls rewarded to players on 18 points or higher. Liz Jarvis top scored for the second week in a row with 26 points while Catherine McCoy and Lawrence Richards both played exceptional games to score 22. Wally Nelson and Barry Muir also finished strongly with 21 points.
Round 14 - 22 rounds were returned with 7 balls rewarded to players on 17 points or better. Lawrence Richards continues to put together what will be looked back on as one of the best individual performances in the history of Sevens Golf with another fine round of 24 points. Dave Murray and Vicki Carius also found themselves at the top of the standings with a fine 22 points each. Sue Tailford and Tonia Brady both played better than their handicaps in scoring 21 points.
Player of the Year
Male - Lawrence Richards has now an unassailable lead in the Male Player of the Year race with a staggering 90 POTY points. There are still plenty of players in the running for the runner-up trophy with Barry Muir currently sitting in second position on 54 POTY points, followed by Jude O'Laughlin on 51 and Dave Murray on 44.
Female - Liz Jarvis continues to lead after 14 rounds on 63 POTY points. Catherine McCoy is right there with her though on 58. Tyneal Smart is sitting in third place on 48 POTY points ahead of Glennis Muir on 45 and Sue Tailford who is making a late charge on 42.
POTY Points will be awarded as follows: Based on the players best score for the week only. The highest individual score each week is awarded 10 POTY points, for every shot scored below the highest individual score, 1 point is deducted. i.e. Best individual score for the week is 26 – every player with 26 as their best score earns 10 POTY pts, 25pts – players earn 9 POTY pts, 23pts – players earn 7 POTY pts…….. 17pts – players earn 1 POTY pt, 16pts and below – zero (0) POTY pts. Pre-Season, Mid-Season and Finals Rounds are excluded from the Player of the Year calculation.
Biggest Loser
Male - We can safely rule out Lawrence Richards for the Biggest Loser award as he will no doubt take out the Player of the Year. This means that Barry Muir is leading with a 16 shot reduction, followed by Jude O'Loughlin with 9 and Albert Crameri on 6.
Female - Tyneal Smart has dropped a further stroke in the last fortnight to be in the lead on an 11 shot reduction, closely followed by Liz Jarvis who has also lost another stroke to be on 10 shots. Gelnnis Muir has lost 9 strokes from her handicap to be in third place, followed by Luanne Armstead on 8.
Round 15 Draw:
This week's match of the round is between first placed Bar Flies and third placed The Happy Hackers although the Happy Hackers will definitely need to get at least six of their team on the course, to have any chance of getting the win.
1 - Bar Flies vs 2 - The Happy Hackers *** Match of the Round ***
3 - Local Pros vs 6 - The Latchers
4 - Mag Seven vs 5 - The Committee
Good Luck to all teams over the next two weeks.
