Darwin & Jabiru GC - June 15th Update

The Dry Season event at Darwin and Jabiru continues after consecutive rounds of more than 100 scores were recorded in the Top End.

After 7 Rounds in Division 1, Wacka Packs lead on 14 competition points.  They registered a comprehensive win over second placed Load of Croc 77-57.  The Managers defeated Bawombats 69-56 to put themselves inside the Top 6, while Tralier Park Boys had an easy win over Fair Cracks 76-21.  John Anderson top scored for Trailer Park Boys with 22 points and was assisted by Brett Foster with a solid 20 points, Linford Fieck and Benjamin Fieck with 17.  For Fair Cracks, Alois Kissling scored 12, while club pro Nathan Campfield needs to hit the practice tee after scoring just 9 points.

In Division 2, The Second Hole continue to impress and one would have to assume that their handicaps are reaching a stable point after scoring a massive 91-66 win over Mystery Men last week in Round 7.  James Revie and Noel Murtagh both scored 26 points to blow the match wide open, and their total was completed by Gentry Carlow with 20 and Daniel Van Ras on 19.  Peter Edwards was th elone gunman for Mystery Men with 19 points, although Jesper Sorenson also played well for 18.  Kakadu Golf Tours recorded a strong win over NT Terror 77-48 with John Bray 22 and Nicole Curtis 20 doing the damage for Kakadu Golf Tours.

Individually over the past two weeks;

Round 6 - 121 rounds were returned with 32 balls rewarded to players on 19 points or higher.  Robert Hay-Hendry found the course to his liking at Jabiru scoring 24 points to be the winner for the week.  Juanita Holt had the dinstinction of being the best for the girls with 23 points and was tied with Noel Murtagh and David Curtis who also scored 23.

Round 7 - 100 rounds were returned with 34 balls rewarded to players on 18 points or better.  Noel Murtagh and James Revie both played spectacular golf to register scores of 26 points.  Ian Clark can be forgiven for thinking he had done enough after scoring 25 points, but had to settle for third.  Claire Hannon top the scoring for the girls with 22 points.

Player of the Year

Male - Noel Murtagh has come from nowhere to lead the mens player of the year on 30 POTY points.  Second on 29 POTY points is team mate James Revie.  Leigh Butler is on 24, David Aldridge on 23, and George Oxton on 22.

Female - Tess Hennessey is leading the womens section on 19 POTY points ahead of Diane Oxton who has collected 17 and Juanita Holt on 16.

POTY Points will be awarded as follows: Based on the players best score for the week only. The highest individual score each week is awarded 10 POTY points, for every shot scored below the highest individual score, 1 point is deducted. i.e. Best individual score for the week is 26 – every player with 26 as their best score earns 10 POTY pts, 25pts – players earn 9 POTY pts, 23pts – players earn 7 POTY pts…….. 17pts – players earn 1 POTY pt, 16pts and below – zero (0) POTY pts.  Pre-Season, Mid-Season and Finals Rounds are excluded from the Player of the Year calculation.

Biggest Loser

Male - Daniel Van Ras has been joined by James Revie at the top of the biggest loser standings on 17 strokes reduced, although with James contesting the POTY, could yet be ruled out if he wins that award.  Anthony Holt is in third spot on 11 strokes reduced with Michael Widmer on 10.

Female - Tess Hennessey leads the womens section with a massive 8 stroke reduction, but may yet be ruled out if she does go on to win the Player of the Year award.  Juanita Holt is next best on 4 shots reduced, Nicole Curtis on 3, with Diane Oxton and Claire Hannon on 2.  Some of the ladies no doubt finding it tough to hang on to a lower handicap as the season continues.
