Darwin & Jabiru GC - June 28th Update

Darwin and Jabiru Golf Club's head into Round 10 this week with Wacka Packa's out in front in Division 1 and The Second Hole leading Division 2...

In Division 1, Wacka Packa's continue their impressive run at the halfway stage of the Dry Season competition with a resounding 75-16 win over Fair Cracks. Wacka Packa's will remain on top this week as they have the Bye. Load of Croc are sitting pretty in second spot after a comfortable 77-0 win over Bawombats. The Managers didn't have to extend themselves too much to beat DGC Grasscutters 57-0 and Trailer Park Boys won a closer match against Kantrimin 68-60.

In Division 2, 40-Love have held onto fourth spot despite not producing a score last week as they tied Sexy Seven 0-0. Kakadu Hackers are in great form for their top of the table clash this week after disposing of NT Terror 72-38 in Round 9. The Second Hole suffered a setback that they won't want to repeat in thier match against Kakadu Hackers this week as they went down to the now third placed Kakadu Golf Tours 83-67. The Rubbles scored an important 73-69 win over The Worm Burners to remin in fifth position on the ladder. Wendy Schwerin and Tom Cannavan top scored for The Rubbles with 20 points each.

Individually over the past two weeks;

Round 8 - 88 scores were returned with 20 balls rewarded to players on 20 points or higher. Nicole Curtis stunned the field by taking the win with 27 points with runner-up Alan Morthen two points behind on 25. Noel Murtagh and Leigh Butler also produced excellent rounds to score 24.

Round 9 - 80 scores were returned with 17 balls rewarded to players on 20 points or better. Noel Murtagh backed up from his 24 the week prior to record a brilliant score of 26 to finish on top. Ben Davies also played some excellent golf to record a score of 24 and finish in second place. Terry Collins had a great week with 23, as did Peter Burge and John Anderson who both scored 22 points. Tess Hennessey, Wendy Schwerin and Diane Oxton were the best performers of the girls with 20 points each.

Player of the Year

Male - Noel Murtagh has streeted the field to lead the way on 47 POTY points. Leigh Butler is in seond spot on 31, followed by Geoff Morris, Daniel Van Ras and James Revie who are all on 29.

Female - Diane Oxton has taken the lead now on 25 POTY points, one ahead of the former leader Tess Hennessey who now sits in second place on 24. Nicole Curtis has rocketed into calculations with a 10 point haul from Round 8 putting her total of 19 POTY points in third place.

POTY Points will be awarded as follows: Based on the players best score for the week only. The highest individual score each week is awarded 10 POTY points, for every shot scored below the highest individual score, 1 point is deducted. i.e. Best individual score for the week is 26 – every player with 26 as their best score earns 10 POTY pts, 25pts – players earn 9 POTY pts, 23pts – players earn 7 POTY pts…….. 17pts – players earn 1 POTY pt, 16pts and below – zero (0) POTY pts. Pre-Season, Mid-Season and Finals Rounds are excluded from the Player of the Year calculation.

Biggest Loser

Male - Daniel Van Ras has taken the lead again in the biggest loser standings on 18 strokes reduced, with James Revie on a 17 stroke reduction close behind. With some sublime play over the past two weeks, Noel Murtagh has jumped into third spot on a 13 stroke reduction in handicap.

Female - Nicole Curtis has lopped 9 shots from her handicap over the past fortnight to sit atop the leaderboard with a total of 12 strokes reduced. Tess Hennessey is right in the mix as well on a 9 shot reduction.

Round 10 Draw:

This weeks match of the round in Division 1 is between 4th placed Seven Up and 5th placed The Managers with neither side willing to give up their position in the Top 6 at the halfway mark of the competition. In Division 2 the match of the round will see 1st up against 2nd as The Second Hole clash with Kakadu Hackers.
