Only four teams remain over two leagues in the battle to hold aloft the Sevens Golf Trophy for 2010...
Muggleton League - Cousin 'IT' & Family vs Curley & The Bell Ringers
How they got there - Cousin 'IT' and Family take their place in the Grand Final courtesy of a 73-72 victory over Hog Boys in the Semi's. Both teams had all 7 players front up for the match and Hog Boys were very close to a boil over against thier fancied opposition. The match was neck and neck all the way, but Paul Taylor's 21 points was good enough to claim the Grand Final spot. In the second Semi Final it was Curley & The Bell Ringers that wer too good on the week for The Gotcha's 80-72. While Curley could only muster up five players, the five were simply too good across the park with Kenneth Hicking top scoring with 21 points and assisted by Ian Herring and Timothy Perkins with 20, and Chris Curley with 19 points.
How they line up - Cousin 'IT' come into the match with a superior team average score 77 for them compared to 74.14 for Curley. Both sides have plenty of low handicaps which is unusual for Sevens Golf with teams normally recruiting novice players into the fold, but Cousin 'IT' do have a slight advantage with four players scoring above 18 points a week compared to just two for Curley. Curley do have one advantage though, Kenneth Hicking, who has played 40 games this season, commitment which is worth it's weight in gold for a Grand Final.
The Consolation Final will be a match for bragging rights between Hog Boys and the Gotcha's.
Featon League - Dirty 1/2 Dozen + a Pom vs Wild Things
How they got here - Dirty 1/2 Dozen + a Pom won their Semi Final against The Domain Dodgers in emphatic fashion with an 85-73 victory. There was no outrageous scores from Dirty, they were just really, really solid all across the board with a 22 from Anthony Knutson, and three 21 point rounds. Allan Skinner again flew the flag for The Domain Dodgers in scoring 19 points along with Bradley Outzen, but unfortunately it wasn't going to be enough for what would have been an amazing run to a Grand Final. It was still an amazing run, but instead, it will be to a consolation final. Wild Things will be going into the Grand Final as big underdogs after they scraped through their Semi Final against Lucky 7 63-56. The Wildings, Carol and Phillip were excellent for Wild Things with 20 and 18 points respectively, however, the rest of the team will need to lift if they are to cause an upset.
How they line up - It looks ugly for Wild Things going into this match, although Grand Finals are known to produce surprise results, Sevens Golf is no exception. Dirty have a 9 point better scoring average as a team and lost just one match during the season compared to 5 for Wild Things. While that doesn't look great for Wild Things, it gets worse. Four players for Dirty 1/2 Dozen + a Pom have played more than 26 games, more than any of the players for Wild Things which shows they are a committed team as well as a good one. We hope for Wild Things, that the backbone of the team David Cox and Phillip Wilding can rally the troops for a spectacular week of golf and really make it an exciting match.
In the Consolation Final The Domain Dodgers will face off against Lucky 7 for third place and some pride.
Individually last week;
Semi Final - 122 scores were returned with 22 balls rewarded to players scoring 19 points or better. Chris Curley registered the best score for the week with 22 points.
